POKOTABI / Yoyoki
代々㐂菓子店
Located on the temple approach to Shibamata Taishakuten, Japanese confectionery shop Yoyoki offers boat-shaped Yagiri no Watashi monaka packed with sweet bean paste alongside colorful bottles of konpeito candies.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Standing along the historic temple approach to Shibamata Taishakuten, Yoyoki is best known for its Yagiri no Watashi monaka, molded into the likeness of the wooden ferryboats that cross the nearby Edo River. The crisp wafer shells can be filled with sweet bean paste right when ordered, providing a pleasing contrast between the toasted, brittle exterior and the generous filling within.
The filling comes in 3 styles: coarse tsubu-an, smooth koshi-an, and white shiro-an. Beyond buying individual wafers, visitors can select gift boxes of 3, or opt for chestnut-based kuri kinton monaka depending on the season and personal taste, making it an enjoyable stop for picking out souvenirs while wandering through Shibamata.
Alongside the signature monaka, the storefront displays bright candies and small glass jars filled with colorful konpeito sugar sweets. Whether enjoyed as a personal treat while strolling the temple grounds or chosen as an understated Tokyo gift for children and friends, the confectioner remains an inviting stop along the approach.
